The stopping distance calculator is not professional driver training and does not model your own reflexes, your vehicle’s actual brakes and tires, or real road conditions. The SAE autonomy level guideis not a certified engineering or legal safety standard and is not a determination of what any specific real vehicle can safely do. Do not use either tool to decide how much attention a driver can divert from the road, or to make any other real-world driving, purchasing, or safety decision. For that, consult the vehicle’s owner’s manual, a qualified driving instructor, or the relevant traffic authority.

Results Are Rounded, Simplified Estimates

The tools apply standard formulas — constant-deceleration braking physics for stopping distance, a linear charge-rate model for charging time, straightforward rate-times-distance arithmetic for range and trip cost — and round their output for readability. That rounding, together with the assumptions of each deliberately simple model (no allowance for a specific tire compound, no real-time traffic or elevation data, no manufacturer-specific charging curve, no individual reaction-time measurement), means a displayed value will differ from how a specific vehicle actually performs. Always confirm a figure that matters against the vehicle’s own manual or specifications when precision matters.

Why a Result May Look Off

A calculator can return a surprising or blank answer when:

• Units are mismatched: mixing mph with km/h, or miles with kilometres, changes the answer entirely.
• A charge percentage range is unrealistic: entering a starting charge higher than the target charge, or a range outside 0–100%, has no meaningful result.
• A friction or road-condition assumption doesn’t match real conditions: the stopping distance calculator uses a standard dry-pavement friction assumption, so a real result on wet, icy, or gravel roads will be longer than what it shows.
• An autonomy-level answer doesn’t match how a specific real vehicle actually behaves:two systems with similar marketing names can implement different capabilities, and a manufacturer’s own labeling doesn’t always align with the SAE J3016 definitions the guide uses.
