The following is a list of upcoming road work projects in Delaware County, along with their expected completion dates:

U.S. 1 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Meeting

PennDOT invites the public to a live virtual public meeting on Wednesday, June 18, for the project to improve traffic operations and install ITS devices along a 10-mile section of U.S. 1 (Media Bypass/State Road) from Schoolhouse Lane in Concord Township, to just west of Weymouth Road in Springfield Township. According to PennDOT:

The proposed improvements include the installation of 14 closed-circuit TV cameras, four changeable digital messaging signs, and underground fiber optics and power connections.

U.S. 476 Lane Closures

Through June 13, a lane closure southbound between the Media Swarthmore (Exit 3) and MacDade Boulevard (Exit 1) interchanges for conduit installation. Through June 27, a lane closure both directions between the Interstate 76 and Interstate 95 interchanges for resurfacing, bridge repair, utility construction and guiderail replacement.

Open House for Route 452 Project

PennDOT invites the public to attend an open house plans display about the project to improve Route 452 (Market Street) at the Interstate 95 interchange in Upper Chichester Township. The display will be available to the public from June 9 through June 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upper Chichester Township Building, 8500 Furey Road, Upper Chichester.

Clifton Heights Middle School Road Work

PennDOT said that Upper Darby School District will perform stormwater installation, curbing, milling and overlay, and streetscape on sections of Springfield Road in Clifton Heights, with detours in effect. Through Sept. 2: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Springfield Road will be closed weekdays between Baltimore Pike and Fairview Avenue. Sept. 3 through Dec. 3: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Springfield Road will be closed weekdays between Fairview Avenue and Oak Avenue.

Sellers Avenue Bridge Replacement

PennDOT is replacing the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure over the Amtrak lines in Ridley Park under a $9.8 million project. Through Oct. 30: the intersection of Ridley and Ward avenues will be closed and detoured 24/7 for reconstruction. During the closure, Ridley Avenue and Ward Avenue motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Lansdowne Avenue Corridor Improvements

The safety improvement project on Lansdowne Avenue includes upgrades at the following intersections: Marshall Road, Plumstead Avenue, Essex Avenue, Greenwood Avenue, Stewart Avenue, Baltimore Avenue, Providence Road, Baily Road and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Completion is expected in spring 2026.

Conchester Highway Project

PennDOT says construction will continue on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Route 452 (Market Street) under a $99.47 million contract for Section 103 improvements to a 1.4-mile section of U.S.322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township. Through November: Periodic lane closures weekdays from 7 p.m. to 6 the following morning:

  • U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) between Chelsea Parkway and the Route 452 (Market Street) Interchange.
  • Route 452 (Market Street) at the U.S. 322 Interchange.
  • Bethel Avenue between Dutton Street and U.S. 322/Route 452 (Market Street).

Route 1 Ramp Closures

Through Aug. 15: The ramp from U.S. 1 North (Media Bypass/State Road) to Route 320 (Sproul Road) will be closed and detoured 24/7.

Governor Printz Boulevard Bridge Work

Drivers will encounter a 24/7 left lane closure in both directions between Bartram Avenue/Scott Way and Stevens Drive for bridge work.

Route 420 Bridge Replacement

The PennDOT $36 million project to replace the bridges that carry the highway over Darby Creek in Prospect Park and Tinicum Township. Into 2027: One southbound lane of the Route 420 bridge over the Darby Creek to be closed 24/7 as a four-year project to refurbish and replace that span continues.

Aqua Pennsylvania Water Main Replacement

In Upper Providence Township, crews will replace 5,400 feet of aging water mains on the following roads, with construction continuing through the summer, and final road restoration scheduled for the fall:

  • Lakewood Drive between Providence Road and Springton Lake Road
  • Springton Lake Road between Providence Road and Lakewood Drive
  • Pineview Drive between Providence Road to the end of the cul-de-sac
  • Toft Woods Way between Bishop Hollow Road to the end of the cul-de-sac

In Sharon Hill, crews will replace 3,700 feet of water mains on the following roads, with construction through June, and final road restoration scheduled for later in the summer:

  • Foster Avenue between Chester Pike to end of road
  • Elmwood Avenue between Folcroft Avenue & Clifton Avenue

In Middletown Township, crews are also installing 3,650 feet of new main on Parkmount/Lungren Road between Pennell Road and Lenni Road, with construction through the summer, and final road restoration in the fall. In Upper Darby Township, 2,000 feet of aging water mains will be upgraded on Mason Avenue between State Road and School Lane, with construction through the summer, and final road restoration in the fall. In Nether Providence Township, crews are upgrading 1,315 feet of aging water mains. Main replacements will occur on the following streets, with construction through June, and final road restoration scheduled for later in the summer:

  • Brookhaven Road/Turner Road (SR 3003) between E.
