Welsh rock band Stereophonics will be bringing its first tour in three years to Cardiff on Friday and Saturday, and fans are in for a treat. However, to ensure concert-goers can get to and from Principality Stadium safely, Cardiff Council has announced a number of road closures in place around the stadium and in Cardiff city centre this weekend.

Full List of Cardiff Road Closures for Stereophonics’ Principality Stadium Shows

  • Scott Road
  • Park Street
  • Kingsway (North Road junction to Duke Street junction)
  • Cowbridge Road East (Cathedral Road junction to Westgate Street junction)
  • Tudor Street (Clare Road junction to Wood Street junction – access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment)
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street (Despenser Place junctions to Tudor Street junction – access for residents and traders will be permitted)
  • Station Terrace and Guildford Street (Newport Road junction to Churchill Way junction) will be accessible for buses only
  • Duke Street
  • Castle Street
  • High Street
  • Saint Mary Street
  • Caroline Street
  • Wood Street
  • Central Square
  • Westgate Street
  • Quay Street
  • Guildhall Place
  • Golate
  • Park Street
  • Havelock Street
  • Scott Road

These road closures will be in place from as early as 7am on Friday and will run until as late as 12am on Sunday. Fans are advised to plan their journey ahead of time to avoid any disruptions.

Other Road Closures

Access to part of the Civic Centre will be managed throughout the day, with access only allowed for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks. The following roads will be affected:

  • King Edward VII Avenue
  • Museum Avenue
  • City Hall Road
  • College Road
  • Gorsedd Gardens Road

Motorists planning to travel on the M4 on either Friday or Saturday are being urged to plan their journey ahead of time as the motorway is expected to be “very busy” due to the Stereophonics concerts. For up-to-date traffic information, visit the Traffic Wales website or any of its social media accounts.

Parking in Cardiff for Stereophonics Concerts

For those planning on driving to the Stereophonics concerts at Principality Stadium, there are a number of parking options available:

  1. Civic Centre (£20 or £30 for coaches, open 8am until midnight)
  2. Sophia Gardens (£20 or £30 for coaches, open 8am until midnight)
  3. North Road Car Parks (open 24 hours)
  4. St David’s Shopping Centre (closes at 8pm)
  5. Castle Mews (open 24 hours)
  6. John Lewis (closes at 12.05am)
  7. Capitol Shopping Centre (closes at midnight)
  8. NCP – Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road (open 24 hours)
  9. Gol Centres Ltd, CF11 8BR (£30 – Friday and Saturday)
  10. Colum Drive, CF10 3EU (£40 – Friday and Saturday only)

There are more parking options available, a little further out, according to Principality Parking. You can book your spot at these three car parks by heading to the Principality Parking website.

Park and Ride Facilities

There is also a park-and-ride facility available at Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village, Cardiff Bay (CF11 0JS). The park-and-ride service will cost £15 (cash only). The first bus departs the site at 11am with the last bus back from the city centre at midnight.

Public Transport to Stereophonics Concerts at Principality Stadium

Trains will operate additional services and increase the number of train carriages used to manage the “expected increase” in passengers for the Stereophonics shows. A queuing system will also be in place outside Cardiff Central Station from 10pm on both Friday and Saturday.

“Those looking to travel by train are warned to check the time of their last train home, and to allow plenty of time,” said Cardiff Council.

Cardiff Council also warned that Revenue Protection Inspectors will be conducting ticket checks both before and after the events.

Bus Services

There are several bus/coach options available to get you to the Stereophonics concerts, including:

  • Stagecoach
  • Cardiff Bus
  • Adventure Travel
  • National Express

Passengers are being urged to note that bus services will be diverted while the city centre road closures are in place.
